2 Exciting Halloween Songs to Keep Young Singers Engaged

Do your students enjoy vocal warm-ups?  Mine *usually* do--I have a standard set of warm-ups specifically designed for kids--but to keep them from getting tedious it can be fun to add holiday alternatives to my standard set.  Today I'm sharing the Halloween warm-ups that I'm using with my young students.  Depending on the ages of your students, you could also use these in other parts of your lesson as well.   My kiddos also love these little songs--even my two-year old has been going around humming Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King"!

The first song is called "Stirring Our Brew."  I love this song because my mom used to sing it with me when I was little.  It's great practice for kids singing through a minor scale.  It also has chromatic elements AND I like to use it to teach the difference between staccato and legato.

The second song is the main theme from "In the Hall of the Mountain King" and I've added some fun words to it.  This is a favorite with my youngest students because I use it to teach the concept of "accelerando."  Each repetition of the theme I speed up little by little until we're singing it ridiculously fast and giggling.  Hopefully the children you sing it with will like it just as much!
